The ACP celebrates the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth
“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is anideal for which I am prepared to die.”
The ACP Group of States joins the world in honouring the legacy of Nelson Madiba Mandela. 2018 marks the centenary of his birth, and affords us a moment to reflect on his legacy.
The ACP Group pays tribute and honours the life of Madiba Mandela that embodied the ideals of humanity, such as peace, equality and commitment to reversing the injustice of institutionalised racism. The depth of the spirit and unshakeable courage of Nelson Mandela remains a source of inspiration for all who are fighting for freedom, equality and justice throughout the world.
The ACP Group remembers with fondness that it was under President Mandela's watch and guidance that South Africa assumed the membership of the ACP Group in 1996.
We find solace in South Africa’s determination and commitment to each day embrace and enrich Mandela’s legacy to effectively actualise the values of democracy, justice and solidarity among and between all 79 ACP Member States, throughout the Global South and across the entire world.
