Statement of the Secretary-General of the OACPS on the outcome of the general elections in Belize
Brussels, 18 November 2020/OACPS: On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto CHIKOTI, applauds the People of Belize for the successful general elections on 11 November 2020.
The Secretary-General congratulates the Honourable Mr. John Briceño and his People’s United Party (PUP) on their victory. He commends Honourable Patrick Faber for his leadership and statesmanship by accepting the results and congratulating the elected President, a testament of the tradition of peaceful democratic transitions in the country.
H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti commends the People of Belize for the remarkable voter turnout, amidst the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the flooding following the passage of hurricane Eta. This is a clear indication of the collective national commitment towards strengthening democracy and good governance in the country.
The Secretary-General conveys his best wishes to the Prime Minister and his Cabinet, and reaffirms the OACPS’ support in their efforts to further the sustainable development of Belize to the benefits of its citizens and the Caribbean Region.
