Brussels, 24 September 2013/ ACP: The ACP Secretary-General, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, was deeply dismayed to learn of the terrorist attack carried out by the militant Islamist group, Al-Shabaab, at a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, on Saturday 21 September 2013.

The Secretary-General condemns, in the strongest possible terms, this heinous crime perpetrated against innocent civilians, which has left dozens dead and hundreds injured.

The Secretary-General expresses hope for a speedy resolution to the hostage situation that followed the attack and for the perpetrators and masterminds behind this crime to be pursued, arrested and brought before the relevant courts.

The Secretary-General expresses the ACP Group's solidarity with the Kenyan authorities and offers condolences to the families of the victims.

The Secretary-General urges the international community to increase its efforts to root out terrorism in the Horn of Africa and to provide all the assistance necessary to restore peace, stability and security in Somalia.
