Statement by the ACP Secretary General on the Situation in Sudan
Brussels 12 June 2019/ACP:On behalf of the African, Carribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) and the ACP Secretariat, the Secretary General, Dr. Patrick Gomes, expresses his deep concern about the violence in Sudan that has led to loss of lives. He recalls the need for the parties to take responsability for the safety and security of the citizens of Sudan.
The Secretary General urges all parties to refrain from any further action that could exacerbate the situation. He calls on them to pursue peaceful dialogue that provides an environment that meets the aspirations of the people of Sudan.
The Secretary General appeals to all parties to exercise restraint and respect for rights of citizen including right to assemble and freedom of expression. The ACP Group hails the efforts of the international community and regional organisations that are supporting efforts to bring lasting solution to the situation in Sudan.
