Brussels, 22 April 2016/ ACP: The Secretary General of African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, H.E. Dr. Patrick I. Gomes received the President of Mozambique H.E. Mr. Filipe Jacinto Nyusi during a courtesy call to the ACP House on Friday 22 April to discuss keys issues of common interest.

Speaking to the press at the end of the visit, the Mozambican President welcomed this opportunity to learn more about the work of the ACP Group, and to discuss how it can be strengthened to serve the interests of member states more effectively.

This is the first visit to ACP Headquarters for President Nyusi, since his election as Head of State of in January 2015.

The President’s visit was part of a working trip to Brussels, during which he also met with Belgium’s King Philip, the Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and various representatives of the European Institutions. Mozambique is one of 14 partner countries of the Belgian Development Cooperation.

Mozambique became a member of the ACP Group when it signed the Lomé Convention in 1984. It hosted the Fourth ACP Summit of Heads of State and Government in 2004.
