New York, 23 September 2016/ ACP: The ACP Secretary General H.E. Dr. Patrick I. Gomes paid a courtesy call to the President of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly H.E. Peter Thomson, Ambassador of Fiji, while in New York for the meetings of the UNGA.

The Secretary General welcomed Fiji's election to the seat, this being the first time for a Pacific Island country to hold the presidency.

The two agreed to foster closer collaboration in areas of common interest. In this regard, Ambassador Thomson invited ACP's participation at the High-Level UN Conference to Support the Implementation of SDG 14 scheduled for June 2017 on World Oceans Day, focusing on the conservation and sustainably use of oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
