Maputo, 31 October 2013/ Macauhub/ Noticias: The Mozambican government will continue negotiating the removal of taxes it currently pays on exporting sugar to the European Union, the Minister for Industry and Trade, Armando Inroga said.
Noting that negotiation was part of the economic partnership agreements with the EU and the countries of the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific group (ACP), the minister said that Mozambique had seen economic growth levels that have allowed it a trade surplus with some EU countries, such as the Netherlands to which Mozambique exports more goods than it imports.
“Although we export only aluminium to the Netherlands, we believe that with other industries that are of interest to the European Union, such as mining, over the next few years we can change the situation and diversify our export products, with substantial gains for operators,” Inroga said cited by daily newspaper Notícias.
After taking part in the opening of a seminar on boosting trade between Mozambique and Sweden, the Minister said that, as part of negotiations with the EU an interim partnership agreement had been signed.
The event, which was organised by the Mozambican government, the Swedish embassy and the Swedish National Trade Council, brought together representatives of a number of State bodies involved in international trade.
