Brussels, 19 July 2014/ ACP: The ACP Committee of Ambassadors received two newly appointed peers on Thursday, from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Republic of Djibouti.
H.E Mr. Mohamedoun Daddah (pictured, right) is the former Ambassador and Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mauritania. An attorney by profession, trained in Public International Law, he has represented his country in a wide range of international fora relating to global governance and development, including as a member of delegation to sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.
Before entering the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2008, he headed the Documentation and Research Centre of the Moktar Ould Daddah Foundation and spent some years as Administrative and Financial Director of Invest Consulting, a private agency focused on promoting business between Mauritania and foreign investors. Ambassador Daddah sits as a member of the National Committee for Nuclear Security as well as the Advisory Board Committee.
H.E Mr. Omar Abdi Said of Djibouti (pictured, left) is a former parliamentarian, elected twice in 2003 and 2008. As such, he has been a familiar face at ACP meetings, having led the Djibouti delegation on several occasions to sessions of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
Notably, Ambassador Said’s second term in parliament was spent as Chair of the Financial and Economic Committee from 2008 to 2013, in addition to being Director of the Office of the Speaker of the National Assembly since 2003, until his appointment to Brussels. In his capacity as Chairman of the Inter-parliamentary Union of the Eastern Africa trading bloc IGAD, he was heavily involved in the implementation of its regional economic integration strategy. Before his election to parliament he worked as a technical advisor in Djibouti’s Minister of the Interior.
In addressing the Committee of Ambassadors for the first time in their new capacity, the Ambassadors noted the importance of the discussions on the future orientations of the ACP Group after the year 2020, given the changing global context. Both envoys confirmed their commitment to supporting the discussions.
