Incoming President of ACP Summit, President Uhuru Kenyatta calls for a renewed and stronger intra-ACP cooperation
On the eve of the upcoming 9th Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government, themed “A transformed ACP committed to multilateralism”, ACP Secretary General, Dr. Patrick I. Gomes met with Kenyan president, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta at State House in Nairobi Kenya on 27 November to brief the Head of State on preparations for the Summit which will be hosted at the KICC in Nairobi from 9-10 December. The Summit will be preceded by ministerial meetings and side events on 6-8 December.
President Kenyatta, as the Head of State of the host country, will take over as president of the Summit of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States from Papua New Guinea, which hosted the 8th ACP Summit in 2016. The President called for a renewed and stronger intra-ACP cooperation and a new sense of unity for the ACP Group.
President Kenyatta visited the Caribbean in August 2019 and held talks with Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley and St. Lucia’s Prime Minister Allen Chastanet. The Kenyan Head of State described his meetings in the Caribbean as a catalyst for rebuilding the global African family in the service of development and integration.
