The Committee of Ambassadors of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States,

1.Having examined, during its 836th meeting on 27 January 2011, the current political situation in Côte d’Ivoire since the announcement of the results of the second round of the presidential election, which was held on 28 November 2010;

2.Considering the various statements and declarations on the post-electoral situation in Côte d’Ivoire, as published by the United Nations Organisation (UN), the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA), the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the European Union (EU) ;

3.Having regard to the conclusions of the ACP observation mission to the first round of the presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire;

4.Considering the importance of peace and stability in Côte d’Ivoire for the entire West Africa region;

5.Endorses the decisions of the UN, the ACP-EU JPA, the AU, ECOWAS, and the EU to recognise the results announced by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of Côte d’Ivoire, as certified by the Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, in conformity with Resolution 1765 (2007) of the UN Security Council of 16 July 2007;

6.Deplores the violence that has flared in Côte d’Ivoire, causing the loss of numerous lives;

7. Urges all parties to place the superior interest of the Ivorian nation above partisan considerations and to refrain from any acts or statements that could trigger violent confrontations and so compromise the peace process at this critical period in the history of Côte d’Ivoire; and

8.Fully supports the efforts to resolve the crisis led by the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government under the presidency of H.E. Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as those of various emissaries appointed by ECOWAS and the AU with the aim of finding a solution to the Ivorian crisis.
