DECLARATION BY THE ACP COMMITTEE OF AMBASSADORS ON THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN BURKINA FASO
The Committee of Ambassadors of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) has been closely following the developments in the political situation in Burkina Faso.
The Committee extends its condolences to the bereaved families and expresses heartfelt compassion and solidarity with all the people of Burkina Faso.
The Committee commends the decision of President Blaise Compaoré to demit his post as President of the Republic, which helped prevent any further deterioration in the situation in the country. It urges all the parties involved to exercise restraint so as to avoid any worsening of the situation.
The Committee hereby states that the ACP Group will fully support all measures put in place to swiftly restore constitutional order, peace and security to Burkina Faso. It commends all efforts made to restore constitutional order, a peaceful transition, guaranteed security across the country, and the protection of people and property.
The Committee of Ambassadors sincerely congratulates all the international organisations, notably ECOWAS led by the Heads of State of Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal, for the successful mediation being carried out in that respect.
The Committee of Ambassadors will continue to monitor developments in the situation in Burkina Faso.
