Decision 1 – 99th session of the ACP Council of Ministers, 16-18 June 2014: THE FUTURE PERSPECTIVES OF THE ACP GROUP
The ACP Council of Ministers,
Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, from 16 to 18 June 2014,
RECALLING the objectives of the Georgetown Agreement, including consolidating and strengthening the solidarity of the ACP Group;
RECALLING the Decision No.4/XCII/10 of the 92nd Session of the ACP Council of Ministers on 10th November 2010, which established the Ambassadorial Working Group on Future Perspectives (WGFP) with a mandate to carry out a process of reflection on how “to maintain and strengthen unity and solidarity within the ACP Group”;
HAVING CONSIDERED the report of the Chairman of the Ambassadorial Working Group on the Future Perspectives of the ACP Group.
COMMENDING the work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Structure and Functioning of the ACP Group;
NOTING that the Ambassadorial Working Group on the Future Perspectives has identified Strategic Policy Domains which take account of the ACP Group as a Facilitator and Knowledge Hub for South-South & Triangular Cooperation as a modality in Development Finance Cooperation and as a platform for diversified partnerships with the Global South;
HEREBY DECIDES TO:
1. Adopt the Progress Report of the Working Group on the Future Perspectives of the ACP Group and;
2. Direct the Committee of Ambassadors to implement the short and medium term recommendations that emanated from the work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Structure and Functioning of the ACP Group; and
3. Mandate the Committee of Ambassadors to consider and approve the Final Report of the Working Group on the Future Perspectives of the ACP Group by mid September and make it available to the EPG prior to the convening of the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government on 6th and 7th November 2014 in Paramaribo, Suriname.
