ACP Parliamentary Assembly observes one minute silence to remember victims of Japanese earthquake and tsunami

The 23rd Session of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Parliamentary Assembly observed ‘a minute silence’ for the victims of the deadly Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, which struck the north-eastern part of the country on Friday (11 March 2011).
President of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly, Hon. David Matongo (Zambia), said the one-minute silence was a show of solidarity by the ACP Assembly with the people of Japan during one of the most difficult times in their history.
It was agreed that Hon. Matongo sends a letter, on-behalf of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly, to express its deepest sympathy and condolences to the Government and the people of Japan.
The earthquake measuring 8.9 magnitude, struck 250 miles North-east of Tokyo and is Japan's most powerful earthquake since records began. The quake is the fifth-largest in the world since 1900.
