Brussels, 18 March 2019/ACP: The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group) and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) published a joint report titled, “South-South in Action” which will be launched during a side event hosted by the ACP Group of States at the upcoming Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40) in Buenos, Aires, Argentina.
The book is the first joint product arising out of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by UNOSSC and the ACP Secretariat in 2016 that includes cooperation on joint publications.
The report seeks to capture the various factors that contribute to the ACP Group as being a “natural” hub and facilitator of South-South and triangular cooperation. It illustrates the intersection between the ACP’s Group’s policies and practices under South-South and triangular cooperation and global development and policy arrangements, including the 2030 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development and the ACP Secretariat’s framework for South-South and triangular cooperation in ACP countries as highlighted in the Group’s 2017-2020 Strategic Plan.
“The ACP Group has collaborated with a number of partners throughout the years to promote South-South collaboration and this publication is a testament to this work. It also goes beyond this to give tangible examples of how we can promote further cooperation and collaboration,” said Assistant Secretary General Henrique Banze who will be leading the Secretariat’s team in Argentina. Speaking of the conference itself, Mr. Banze added: “In addition to sharing our experiences through the Report, we are looking forward to actively contributing to the deliberations, and exchanging with the global experts present so we can take on even more ambitious initiatives in the future.”
The ACP side event on the theme of “The ACP Group’s commitment to South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) for the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” will take place on 21 March 2019.
