Brussels, 25 January 2013/ ACP: An ACP-EU prize of 2,500 euros was recently announced at a press conference heldat the ACP headquarters in Brussels, within the framework of the ACPCultures+ Programme, and will be awarded at the 23rd FESPACO (Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou).

The President of the ACP Ambassadors Committee, Mr. Daniel Evina Abe’e, ACP Assistant-Secretary General, Mrs. Michèle-Dominique Raymond, the Ambassador of Burkina Faso, Mr. Frédéric Korshaga, the FESPACO Delegate-General, Mr. Michel Ouedraogo, Secretary General of the Burkinabe Ministry of Culture and President of the Organising Committee, Mr. Jean-Claude Dioma, and the representative of the European Commission, Mr. Denis Salord, took part in the international event on 10 January, which brought together around a hundred journalists and professionals.

For this 23rd festival, to be held in Ouagadougou from 23rd February to 2nd March 2013, 101 films are in the running in various categories (feature films, short films, digital fiction films, documentaries, television series, diaspora films, and cinema school films), representing participation by over 35 countries.

The Secretariat of the ACP Group of States is proud to announce that 5 films benefitting from the support of the ACPFilms Programme, financed under the 9th European Development Fund, are competing; Le Grand Kilapy of Zézé Gamboa (Angola), Margarida by Licino Azevedo (Mozambique), The Captain of Naka of Bob Nyanja (Kenya) and La République des enfants (The Children’s Republic) of Flora Gomes (Guinea Bissau) in the feature films category and the television series Les Concessions (The Concessions) produced by the National Cinematography Centre of Mali (CNCM).

Two other non-competing films supported by the ACPFilms Programme will be shown at the festival : Bayiri-la patrie of S. Pierre Yameogo (Burkina Faso) and Mama Diarra et Compagnie of Pape Abdoulaye Tall (Sénégal).

Now a global benchmark, the Pan-African Cinema Festival of Ouagadougou is, in parallel to the competition, organising the 16th International Market of African Cinema and Television (MICA), professional thematic meetings, and the showing of 75 films not competing.
