Statement by the Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) on the escalation of violence in Israel and Gaza

H.E. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secretary General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), expresses his deep concern at the escalation of violence in Israel and Gaza, which has claimed many lives among the Israeli and Palestinian peoples. He urges all the parties involved to give priority to dialogue as the main means of calming the conflict and rapidly establishing a ceasefire.
Secretary General Chikoti affirms that the primary objective of this dialogue should be to find a comprehensive and lasting solution to this conflict in accordance with international law. It is imperative that all parties come together and agree on a solution that promotes peace while addressing the root causes of this long-standing conflict in the Middle East.
Secretary General Chikoti congratulates the humanitarian organisations working to alleviate the suffering of the Israeli and Palestinian populations caught in the stranglehold of the conflict.

Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secrétaire général de l’Organisation des États d’Afrique, des Caraïbes et du Pacifique (OACPS), exprime sa profonde inquiétude face à l’escalade de la violence en Israël et à Gaza qui a fait de nombreux victimes parmi les peuples israélienset palestiniens. Il demande instamment à toutes les parties prenantes de privilégier le dialogue comme moyen principal d’apaiser le conflit et d’établir rapidement un cessez-le-feu.
Le Secrétaire général Chikoti affirme que l’objectif premier de ce dialogue devrait être la découverte d’une solution globale et durable à ce conflit dans le respect du droit international. Il est impératif que toutes les parties se réunissent et s’accordent pour une solution qui favorise la paix tout en s’attaquant aux causesprofondes de ce conflit de longue date au Moyen-Orient.
Le Secrétaire général Chikoti félicite enfin les organisations humanitaires qui s’efforcent d’alléger les souffrances des populations israéliennes et palestiniennes qui sont prises dans l’étau du conflit.
