On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, urges the leadership of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to immediately cease all fighting, exercise maximum restraint and prioritize the well-being and safety of the Sudanese people.

 

The Secretary-General deplores the loss of lives and expresses deep concern about the Sudan’s security and humanitarian situation. He calls on all actors to allow and facilitate humanitarian access to vital services and assistance. Furthermore, the Secretary-General offers his heartfelt condolences to the families that have lost loved ones and wishes those injured a swift recovery.

 

H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti urges all parties involved to work towards finding peaceful solutions to address any contentious issues within the framework of the trilateral negotiation mechanism led by the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). He pledges the support of the OACPS for these efforts in the Sudan.

 

The Secretary-General recalls the commitment of Members of the OACPS to consolidate, strengthen, and maintain peace and stability as a precondition for improving the well-being of the people. He reiterates the support of the OACPS for the people of Sudan in their efforts to restore peace and stability, and the conclusion of negotiations towards a comprehensive peace deal that facilitates the resumption of the democratic transition process.
