Statement by the Secretary-General of the OACPS on the political developments in Guinea Bissau
On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, welcomes and endorses the decision by the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to resolve the political situation in the Republic of Guinea Bissau following the Presidential elections held in December 2019, as expressed in the ECOWAS Communique issued on 22 April 2020.
The Secretary-General appeals to all concerned to pursue peaceful solutions in accordance with the Constitutional provisions of Guinea Bissau. He encourages all efforts to strengthen national unity and further promote the sustainable development of the country.
Pursuant to the Nairobi Nguvu Ya Pamoja Declaration of the 9thSummit of ACP Head of States and Government, the OACPS reiterates its commitment to upholding peace, and democracy for its Members, and renews its support to the Government and people of Guinea Bissau to ensure political stability and inclusive governance.
