Brussels, 17 September 2020/OACPS: On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto CHIKOTI, commends Jamaica for the successful holding of General Elections on 3 September 2020. He congratulates the candidates and the people of Jamaica, for their wisdom and commitment to peaceful and transparent elections. This laudable attitude facilitated the triumph of Jamaica’s cherished democratic principles.

The Secretary-General congratulates the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, on his party’s victory and on his re-election for a second term as Prime Minister of Jamaica. H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti further expresses delight at the historic election of the highest number of women to the Parliament, therefore advancing the achievement of SDG 5. In keeping with the commitments made by its Member States, the OACPS promotes equal opportunity for women, their full and effective participation, and their leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life.

The Secretary-General conveys his best wishes to the Prime Minister and wishes him every success in his new term in office and reiterates his commitment to continue working with him in the pursuit of the OACPS agenda and the achievement of the Jamaican people’s goal of inclusive and sustainable development.
