Statement by the Secretary-General OACPS on the conclusion of General and Regional Elections in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana
Brussels, 7 August 2020/OACPS: On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, welcomes the conclusion of the elections in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana following the declaration of the final results by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on 2 August 2020.
The Secretary-General congratulates H.E. Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali on his accession to the Presidency and pledges the support of the OACPS during his tenure. He applauds the former President, H. E. Mr. David Granger, for recognising GECOM’s declaration of results.
H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti commends the People of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana for their patience and exemplary conduct during this protracted process which demonstrated their commitment to democracy, peace and stability.
The Secretary-General reaffirms the solidarity and support of the OACPS to the Government and People of Guyana and wishes them every success in their efforts to nurture and deepen democratic, participatory governance and inclusive sustainable economic development.
