Statement by H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secretary-General of the OACPS on the political developments in the Republic of Guinea
Brussels, 6 September 2021/OACPS: On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, expresses deep concern about the political situation in the Republic of Guinea following the coup d’état on Sunday 5 September 2021.
The Secretary-General strongly condemns these acts, and calls for the unconditional release of President Alpha Condé and all other detained persons. He urgently calls for the restoration of constitutional order in Guinea and asks all parties concerned to exercise utmost restraint in this difficult situation.
H.E. Mr Chikoti supports the statements by the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the European Union (EU), as well as their efforts to secure the return to constitutional order in Guinea.
