Secretary-General of the OACPS pays tribute to the former Prime Minister of Barbados, the Right Honourable Professor Owen Seymour Arthur
Brussels, 30 July 2020/OACPS: Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the Right Honourable Professor Owen Seymour Arthur, former Prime Minister of Barbados, on 27 July 2020.
The Secretary-General notes with deep gratitude the contribution of Prime Minister Arthur to Barbados and the Caribbean Community at large. The late Prime Minister carved his place in the pantheon of Caribbean intellectuals who laid the foundation for the economic development of the region, as the architect and advocate of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). A statesman who governed his country with integrity, and unwavering commitment to consolidate Barbados’ inclusive economic development.
The Secretary-General salutes the late Prime Minister’s dedication to promote democratic processes, as most recently demonstrated through his leadership of the Commonwealth Election Observation Mission to the 2nd of March 2020 Elections in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
On this sad occasion, Secretary-General Chikoti, on behalf of the OACPS, expresses his heartfelt condolences to the family of the Right Honourable Professor Owen Seymour Arthur, the Government and people of Barbados. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
