From September 17 to 20, 2024, the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) participated in the 18th African Cashew Alliance (ACA) Annual Cashew Conference and Expo in Cotonou, Benin. Held under the theme “Building Capacity for a Sustainable African Cashew Industry,” the event was inaugurated by Benin’s Minister of Industry and Trade, H.E. Madam Alimatou Shadiya Assouman. Represented by Mrs. Yvonne Chileshe, Expert Value Chains and Trade, the OACPS underscored the strategic importance of the cashew sector to its member states. During a key panel discussion on “Public and Development Partners’ Contribution to Capacity Building in the Cashew Sector,” the OACPS highlighted transformative initiatives driving the growth of the African cashew value chain. Programs such as the Agri Business Capital Fund, AgriFi Initiative, and Business Support Facility for Resilient Value Chains were presented as examples of the OACPS’s efforts to empower local industries, strengthen resilience, and create sustainable economic opportunities. These interventions reflect the OACPS’s unwavering commitment to fostering a thriving and sustainable cashew sector for its member states.
